Captain's Log #13 - it’s all about impulse control
7/1/17
It turns out that Friday, like love, is a state of mind.
Every day last week felt like a Friday, relaxed. A week of Fridays. The real
Friday felt like Saturday, and it was pay day. Not bad. Now I’ve got 4 days
off. Amazing.
I’m going to hold on to this pay check much harder than the
last ones. I got called in for another ‘talking to’ Thursday. I think the next
one will be the last and I’ll be shown the door. This time I was rude (again)
by speaking too loudly (shouting) at a meeting “Can we have just one
conversation in the room? I can’t hear the presenter.” Apparently everyone got
to weigh in about how very terribly awful I was, and how I embarrassed the
department (again.) My 2nd level manager really likes me but there’s
only so much complaint she can cope with. I told her I feel like I’m being
picked on, like in a flock of chickens, and there are 2 people who don’t make
eye contact or speak to me, “I’m sorry, that’s unprofessional.” “I don’t
complain about them. I’ve got space for them but no one cuts me any slack.” I
told her that I’m not going to talk with any of the old-timers, only the woman
I work closely with and the newcomers, who totally accept me. I’ll ask to be
transferred to another department, that might forestall getting fired, which
looks bad on an application. I confess to having felt very upset about this;
it’s all about impulse control…
Speaking of impulse control, they threw a 4th of
July party for the clients on June 29th with games, strawberry
short-cake and live music on a shaded lawn. They had a great time, me, too. I
had signed up to work the event but I wasn’t on the duty list so I got to dance
all morning – with the clients. Some of the them really rocked out to the
music; we are all along the same spectrum…
Last night was the last day to enter stuff in the county
fair. I wasn’t sure which category my boucle yarn should be in so I’ll bring
two skeins, one for each category, and I entered a watercolor and pastel, which
I haven’t made, yet. That ought to motivate me! The fair’s in a month.
Which reminds me, I’ve got to throw some supplies together
to go paint and/or spin at a girlfriend’s house in Guerneville today! Huzzah!
And my 5 new kimonos should arrive this weekend. I got to musing about
the difference between: an interest; a hobby; a passion; and obsession. When is
a hobby an obsession? When does something good become bad? I don’t know but
it’s worth thinking about. I came to the conclusion that I much prefer people
who have serious hobbies, they’re far more interesting and so, casting caution
to the wind, I ordered 5 more kimonos (for $134, how could I not?) This time
the long ones that I’ll cut short to make jackets. After all, I wear the ones I
have every day so of course I should have more. (I know, I owe you some photos
but I feel weird taking selfies.)
Must run J Let me
know what you’re up to!
Many blessings,
Karla, k.j. and mom
